West Tennessee Pickleball Association

Jackson’s Premier Pickleball Tournament Sept 6-8

From Julie Wigger.

As many of you know, I run a for-profit business called Hub City Picklers and am hired by nonprofit and for-profit companies to run pickleball events, in addition to running a few things on my own. Like all of you, my passion is pickleball, and I always look for ways to improve this sport in our area which is why I consider myself the marketing and PR person for the West TN Pickleball Association. The West TN Pickleball Association was formed at the end of 2022, and is why we have 18 permanent courts at Conger Park with more coming in other parks.

WTPA for short, is a non-profit that was formed for the local players by other area players, at the bequest of Mayor Conger, to be the liaison to the City of Jackson supporting pickleball and the needs of the players. The WTPA raises money for court needs in addition to what the city provides for us. The WTPA has some things in mind to provide funds for such as sail shades, a water bottle station, or 2, and an AED. We are working with the City to make these things happen. These improvements are things we have and will continue to fundraise for and are within reach.

One way we can get there is with the 2nd annual membership drive for the WTPA which starts on July 1. Membership dues are $30 annually and help to cover the liability insurance plan that the WTPA has to purchase and also will help fund the shade, water, and AED goals.

Our WTPA president, Ron Harris, who is always thinking of the players, wants to host an event in July at no cost to WTPA members. He wants to incentivize becoming a member with perks such as free or discounted events. Hub City Picklers is going to help organize this event at no cost to help provide and support something fun and different for the players. In addition to that, HCP will also give a cost break to all WTPA members for the Jackson Fall Tournament on Sept 6-8. The early registration fee is $65, but for WTPA members, it will be $45 until July 31. You must register before July 31 to get this rate.

Please consider renewing your membership, becoming a member, and/or registering for these tournaments. Thank you everyone for your continued support and happy pickling!
